AtBEX Sequence Data
TAIR Locus ID: AT3G20440
The genomic sequence analyzed spans nucleotides 7,123,101 - 7,130,600 on the complement strand of chromosome 3.
A full length cDNA is available from Riken. Untranslated regions noted in blue text are confirmed by EST sequences.
Note on gene names: At this time we are using Project ID numbers as placeholders for specific gene names. There is no relation between the Project ID number and a particular enzyme subfamily.
Isoform identification: AtBEX is one of three Arabidopsis genes that code for a protein similar to known BEs. This particular isoform is the least closely related to BE's in other organisms, and in fact appears to be a distinct BE isoform that so far has been observed only in Arabidopsis. This conclusion comes from the fact that the AtBEX protein is about 40% identical to either BEI or BEIIa or BEIIb from maize or wheat. In contrast, the AtBE2 or AtBE3 proteins are both about 70-80% identical to either BEIIa or BEIIb, and are about 50% identical to the known BEI isoforms. The BEI isoforms known from different species are conserved at a level of about 70% or more. Thus, it appears that AtBEX is a distinct BE isoform, not part of the conserved BEI or BEII families. There does not appear to be a BEI isoform coded for by the Arabidopsis genome.
